New York City and Connecticut

Historic New England’s Connecticut property is Roseland Cottage, which is en route from Boston to Hartford. The town has nice antique shops, too. Ulysses S. Grant bowled at the cottage, and you can see the alley!

In 2009 Gray’s Papaya was running a “Recession Special” at all their locations, 2 hot dogs and a drink for $3.85. We like the Banana Daquiri drink. We visited the branch at 2090 Broadway at 72nd Street. And they are open 24 hours a day all year, so you’ll never go hungry when hankering for a hot dog and a fruit drink.

You know the economy is bad when a family is sharing the Gray’s Papaya Recession Special.

The Wadsworth Atheneum is a terrific museum in downtown Hartford, Connecticut and hosts excellent special exhibits on a regular basis.  This “At Home with Gustav Stickley” exhibit in 2008 turned out to be quite a scandal, as the collection has been promised to the museum upon the death of its current owner but he later largely rescinded the promise.

Yale’s art museums are free and open to the public. A view of a campus window from the art museum window.

The main Yale Art Museum has a good collection of American jewelry.
